The Escambia County Healthcare Authority announced it has reached an agreement with LifeGuard Ambulance Service to provide Emergency Medical Services coverage for 24 (twenty-four) hours a day, 7 (seven) days a week for the central area of Escambia County, Alabama, which includes the Town of Flomaton. This portion of Escambia County, Alabama has historically been served by Escambia County Florida EMS. The new service with LifeGuard Ambulance Service will begin Monday, May 14 at 8:00 a.m.
Bo Brantley, Escambia County Healthcare Authority Board Member, stated, “We are very happy to be able to announce our 24 hour coverage agreement with LifeGuard Ambulance Service for the Town of Flomaton and the surrounding areas of our Flomaton community.”
The Healthcare Authority and LifeGuard Ambulance Service have been able to work together to arrange for 24 (twenty-four) hours a day, 7 (seven) days a week coverage for the Flomaton community, with this agreement which is effective May 14.
“We originally thought we would only be able to work out dedicated coverage for
12 hours a day with mutual aid arrangements for the other 12 hours a day,” stated Chris Griffin, Healthcare Authority Executive Secretary. “Fortunately, we were able to put into place a 24/7 agreement with no service interruption for the Town of Flomaton and the surrounding communities.”
The Healthcare Authority is continuing to evaluate the possibility of a long-term arrangement for emergency medical services coverage with LifeGuard Ambulance Service to include both the Brewton and Flomaton areas. At this time, no decision has been made concerning a long- term wider coverage agreement.
“I would like to thank our public officials, community leaders, Healthcare Authority board members, Healthcare Authority staff and the concerned citizens who helped us through this process,” said Ruth Harrell, Healthcare Authority Board Chairman. “We live in the best county in Alabama and we understand how important quality healthcare is for all of our communities within Escambia County.”
