The T.R. Miller Tigers are set to go into pre-season action this Friday night against Escambia County in Atmore.
“We had a scrimmage on last Friday night. I was very pleased with the way the guys played. We need to improve on consistently. We have to follow through with tackles. Nothing major was seen that we need adjustments on. It always comes down to improving the little things. I just want them to play hard and with class. Their mentality is where it needs to be,” Etheredge said.
The past weeks have been spent in practice for the Tigers, preparing for the war the season is about to become.
Etheredge, feels like his guys are prepared to start that war in the first battle this Friday night against Escambia County.
“We have a ton of new faces this year. A lot of young guys will see playing time. It’s going to be exciting and nothing can prepare you for Friday nights. I stressed to them that they will have to get on the field and grow up fast,” Etheredge said.
“The Blue Devils are a tough physical team. Their coach has done a terrific job with them. I expect them to go not only to the air, but also to run the ball. They are going to be a challenge and I expect my guys to step up to the challenge,” Etheredge said.
Over the course of this week, Miller will be preparing to treat this game just like any other regular season game.
They will be working on polishing up special teams and defensive and offensive blocking.
“This week Blake Jernigan will start at QB. Miller Hart will also get some playing time in this week’s game at QB as well. Ricky Samuels will be one of guys to watch for along with Cody Jenkins, who has been a huge leader for us,” Etheredge said.
“Our plan right now is to take care of the football and to establish the run. We want to come at them hard, fast, and physical. We just have to play T.R. Miller football,” Etheredge said.
