Phase II of the W.S. Neal High School project should be complete by year end.
The original project began in Oct. of 2013.
The project-totaling $15 million-was divided into two phases.
The first phase was construction of an 81,000 square-foot replacement building with new classrooms, a shop, band hall, and gymnasium.
As part of phase two, the older buildings were to be torn down, with the exception of the cafeteria, which will be renovated into an athletic complex.
The auditorium will be renovated, and the science labs, built in 1997, will become a girls’ athletic facility.
“The project at WSN is in Phase II right now. The previous contractor has been terminated and discussed were the items needed to finalize the project for completion. The project has been contracted to A.E. New Jr., Inc. in the amount of $759,500.00. The project is projected for completion in 120 days. The project will result in a state-of-the-art fieldhouse for the athletic departments, and up-to-date weight room area, men’s and women’s locker rooms, and a new auditorium to be used for numerous school and community functions,” Knott said.
