Christmas this year in Brewton is going to be bigger and better, and it’s all kicking off this week.
Lights and decorations have already been setup all over the Brewton area, leading to the Holiday Kickoff Event Thursday.
“We are adding lights this year to the south part of the four-lane and also adding lights at Alco Park. Both are a new addition to us this year that we are very excited about. Most decorations have gone up but there are still some pole lights and larger decorations that will be going up over the next few weeks,” said Brewton director of programs, Connie Baggett.
The Holiday Kickoff is scheduled for Nov. 15.
The Light Up the Town event will begin at 4 p.m. and the light up ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. at City Park.
Dogwood Hills will be having train rides from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the Chamber of Commerce will have several setups and the market downtown will be open for shopping.
Dogwood Hills will have train rides on Thursday, Friday and Saturday’s of each week during the holidays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at Jennings Park on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday’s of each week from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Santa, elves and hot chocolate will be found at each location and there will be settings for photo opportunities.
The Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Holiday Kickoff, businesses will be open later – from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., Thursday night.
Additionally, the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce is helping promote local holiday shopping using a shopping game that made its debut in Brewton last year. “Betting on Brewton” is a poker run style holiday shopping game that is easy for anyone shopping locally to join in. Playing is easy! First, shop at local participating Brewton Businesses and draw a card when you make a purchase. Collect as many cards as you want to increase your chances of winning. Then, submit your best poker hand at the Chamber Office for a chance to win chamber gift certificates from $25 to $100 in value. The game begins Thursday, November 15th and runs through noon on Friday, December 7th. This is a fun way to conquer your Christmas List, support local businesses, and play for a chance to win great prizes.
