Mr. Donald Eugene “Donnie” Darby, 70, of Ridge Road in Castleberry, passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2018 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Darby was born in Loxley, Ala. and had been a long-time resident of Castleberry, living previously in Georgetown, Ga. and Bryson City, Nc. He was a member of the class of 1967 at Conecuh County High School and attended Reid State College. He worked as an electrician at Georgia Pacific for a number of years, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He loved fishing and Alabama football. Mr. Darby was preceded in death by his parents, Holland & Laura Darby; two brothers, Hubert Shipp and Martin Darby.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Ryals Darby of Castleberry; one son, Don (Cindy) Darby of Castleberry; three daughters, Mechele Baker of Castleberry, Kathy (Greg) Shehan of Uriah, Tina (Mitchell) Riley of Evergreen; one brother, Eddie Darby of Robertsdale; one sister, Virginia Darby Norton of Robertsdale; nine grand-children, Nicole Darby, Tyler Baker, Ashley Richerson, Justin Baker, Taylor Watson, Austin Darby, Brandon Shehan, Caleb Riley, and Ethan Riley; three great-grandchildren, Addison Watson, Caroline Watson, and Sawyer Michael Gray; and his fur baby, “Emma”.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Bro. Andy Peavy officiating. Interment will follow in Buffington Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Pallbearers are Tyler Baker, Justin Baker, Austin Darby, Brandon Shehan and Caleb Riley.
Honorary Pallbearers are Eddie Ryals and William Ryals.
