Work is winding down on the new Dollar General on the South Boulevard in Brewton.

Dollar General spokesperson Angela Petkovic said Monday that there is a tentative soft opening set within the next few weeks, barring that final store preparations are able to be done in time.

Petkovic said that the grand opening celebration is planned for Saturday, June 8.

“The celebration is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., with free gift cards and giveaways,” she said.

The new store was constructed next door to the Shell Station on the South Boulevard.

The current store located in Alco Plaza will close, but employees will transfer to the new location.

Petkovic said previously that the store would be a Dollar General Plus format.

The Plus format is simply the traditional store with approximately 1,100 additional square footage to include expanded cooler and freezer space.

Petkovic said that the store will continue to sell quality name-brand and private brand merchandise such as health and beauty products, home cleaning supplies, housewares, stationery, seasonal items and basic clothing.
