T.R. Miller middle school student athlete Nathan Comander is set to compete in the USA Football Middle School Bowl series on Monday in Dallas.

“It feels amazing knowing how much hard work I’ve put in,” Comander said. “It’s really cool to play with and compete against some of the best young football players in the country as well as being coached by college coaches.”

Comander said he was excited to find out he made the cut.

“I was really excited,” Comander said. “I went to the Atlanta tryouts and the other quarterbacks did a really good job. I was shocked to find out that I made it.”

Playing in the Middle School Bowl series is something that Comander hopes will help improve his game.

“I just want to get better and have fun,” Comander said. “Hopefully, this experience will help me help my team win another championship and one day win a state championship at Miller.”

Comander has been in Dallas for about a week preparing for the game.

“It is fun,” Comander said. “I am getting to know kids from all over. Kids from California, Arizona and everywhere that eat, sleep and breath football year round. It has me excited to play.”

Getting to know that other players has been something that Comander said he has enjoyed.

“Meeting new people and competing,” Comander said when asked what he had enjoyed most about the trip. “I am the youngest and smallest quarterback here from the smallest area and I’m having to step up my play.”

Comander said he has been playing football for most of his life.

“I’ve been playing since I was 5 years old,” Comander said. “I’ve been playing for eight years and I’ve played quarterback for six years.”

Quarterback is where Comander said he loves to play.

“Quarterback is my favorite,” Comander said. “It involves a lot more to play quarterback than most people know. Playing quarterback challenges you mentally and physically. It’s very demanding.”

Comander said loves the hard work that goes into winning.

“I love winning,” Comander said. “I like all the hard work and details that go into preparing to win.”

When he isn’t playing football, Comander said he enjoys other hobbies.

“I watch football and baseball videos on the internet,” Comander said when asked what he does when he isn’t playing football.

Comander will be a seventh grader this year at T.R. Miller.

He is a fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers is his favorite player.

The Middle School Bowl Game series is a where next generation of rising starts go to play and play hard. 

Featuring five days of practice and competition, the Middle School Bowl series are the final step for middle school aged athletes within the U.S. National Team.

The athletes are hand selected by USA football coaches, the roster is comprised of the best middle school athletes around the country. To be considered, athletes must try out at a Regional, held across the country each spring.
