The largest and oldest national scholarship program for high school young women is back in town. Distinguished Young Women is a program where high school girls are eligible for college-granted scholarships from over 100 colleges and universities. Last year, the program granted more than $1 billion in college scholarship opportunities. The local program for Escambia County will be at 6:30 p.m. on July 27 in the Woodfin Patterson Auditorium on the Brewton Campus of Coastal Alabama Community College. 

There are a total of nine contestants from the area’s local high schools. The participants are from W.S. Neal High School, Flomaton High School, T.R. Miller High School and Escambia County High School. Each Distinguished Young Women program evaluates participants in the following categories: Scholastics (25 percent), Interview (25 percent), Talent (20 percent), Fitness (15 percent), and Self-Expression (15 percent). The winner of this local program will go on to represent Escambia County at the state level. 

Tickets can be purchased from the contestants for $10 each and will be available at the door the night of the program for $15.
