The Zion Fountain African Methodist Episcopal Church will be sponsoring its second annual Back to School Haircuts event on Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at RIKO’s Barber Shop in downtown Brewton. The church’s Rev. Anthony Thames said that he decided to start this event last year because of parents being concerned about sending their young men to school without a haircut.

Thames said this year only one barber agreed to lend a hand to the church. However, the barber will be dedicating a full days work to cut students of all ages’ hair.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to help these students look nice and presentable for the first day of school,” Thames said. “I think this will inspire our young men to want to be that helping hand in the future.”

RIKO’s Barber Shop is located next to Jennings Park on Persimmon Street. For more information about the event, please contact Rev. Thames at 251-236-5420 or
