The Highway 41 bridge project is still underway.
According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, ALDOT sent a letter to Tanner Inc. of Laurel, Miss., serving as notice of the company’s default of the contract for the Highway 41 bridge.
After ALDOT’s default warning letter was sent in Sept., Tanner Inc. failed to take steps to complete the bridge in a satisfactory manner as required by ALDOT.
After reviewing Tanner’s response to the default warning, ALDOT is proceeding with the default process.
“I can’t speculate on how long it will take for the performance bond company to initiate the required work, except to say that this is typically a lengthy process,” said Government Relations Manager Tony Harris.
Endlessly working to push the work of the bridge along, Harris said, “We are committed to reaching completion of the new bridge in a way that meets our specifications. In the meantime, the existing bridge remains safe and is open to traffic.”
