John”Jack” Roger Lee Burgess, 86, of Hwy. 83 Evergreen, Ala., passed away Thurs. Dec. 5, 2019, in an Evergreen medical facility after a brief illness. He was a native of St. Joseph, Mo., a former resident of Marietta, Ga., and a long time resident of Evergreen.
Mr. Burgess attended Heartland Church, was a U.S. Army Veteran, and was the Owner/Operator of Sierra Mattress Company. He enjoyed his family and taking part in many family activities. John has two daughters but many more call him daddy. Six grandsons and two great granddaughters, but he is PawPaw to so many more. It didn’t matter how you come to be family, you just knew you were part of the family forever. He loved each and every one the same. He loved and is loved by all his nieces and nephews, greats and great greats.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Rose Harrelson Burgess and ten siblings.
He is survived by two daughters, Angela (Shawn) Boutwell of Evergreen and Belinda Lynn (Dan) Parker of Independence, Mo.; two brothers, Gary Burgess of St. Joseph, Mo. and Buddy Burgess of Washington, In.; four grandchildren-,Eric (Heather) Belbeck, Stephen (Doan) Wages, Brent Wages Joyner, Lev (Courtney) Boutwell; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Hailey
Graveside Services were scheduled for Mon., Dec. 9, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Fort Crawford Cemetery East Brewton, Ala.
Interment followed immediately in Fort Crawford Cemetery, East Brewton, Ala., with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton, Ala. directing.
