A Drive-Thru Food Pantry took place on Thurs.

“The city has partnered with regional organizations to sponsor food giveaways targeted at the food insecure in our community for several years,” said Connie Baggett, director of program management for the city of Brewton.

In an effort to serve the community better during this time, the City of Brewton is partnering with Compassion for Brewton, New Beginnings Worship Center, and Caring Hearts. Through this event, the organizations hope to reach the community in a safe way that still meets the need.

“Currently the city has increased the frequency of those food distributions as the pandemic impacts our city and employment here,” said Baggett.

Protecting all involved, the pantry was moved to a drive-thru only. “The process has also been changed to reduce risk to those working and those picking up food. Drive through only for those events,” said Baggett.

The event began this morning, Thurs., April 9 at 10 a.m. at New Beginnings Worship Center in Brewton. It will continue throughout the month, providing food on the 16, 23, and 30.

New Beginnings Worship Center is located at 717 St. Nicholas Ave. A picture ID is required to receive food.
