First Church of the Nazarene in East Brewton recently named Blake Mohling as the new head pastor.
Originally from Bethany, Oklahoma, Mohling completed his bachelors degree in Ministry and Theology at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany. Following this, he completed his masters of divinity in Spiritual Formation from Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho.
Before taking the position, Mohling was serving as the pastor of a church in Montgomery. In Jan. he and his family made the decision to come to East Brewton. “We prayed about the move and felt like this was where God was calling us,” said Mohling.
Mohling’s first Sun. was on March 8. “We had two good Sundays before Coronavirus really started,” said Mohling. Amid the pandemic, the church has since moved to online or drive-in services only. “I haven’t been able to connect the way I would like, but I have been making phone calls and staying connected through Facebook,” said Mohling. An unprecedented time, Mohling is finding his feet and looks forward to the new ministry.
“It is not the ideal way to get started, but I think things are going well,” said Mohling.
Mohling is married to Rachel Mohling of Montgomery.
“We met while I was doing ministry in Millbrook as a youth pastor and music minister,” said Mohling. Now, together, the couple has three daughters.
Currently, the family is in the process of moving and are looking forward to the transition.
“My family comes down with me on the weekends. They are excited about us moving. We hope to be there fully in May,” said Mohling.
