ROYCE RODGERS LAYTON
BREWTON, ALA.
Mr. Royce Rodgers Layton, 85, of Brewton, passed away Tuesday, Apr. 21, 2020, in a Pensacola, Fla., hospital after a brief illness.
He was a native of Brantley, Ala., a former resident of Montgomery, Ala. and a long time resident of Brewton. Mr. Layton was a member of the Brewton First United Methodist Church and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired from AT&T with 30 years of service, with his final project involving fiber optic service to the Brewton area.
Mr. Layton started Brewton Air Conditioning, Inc. in 1975, as an offshoot of electrical contracting with his four sons. Throughout his life, he enjoyed woodworking, being involved with Brewton Youth Football and the Boy Scouts of America. During his retirement, Mr. Layton became very involved with the L-Pond Hunting and Fishing Club Community in Castleberry, Ala., where he was a long time member.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Robbie Joyce Akers Layton of Brewton; four sons, Steven (Vivian) Layton of Brewton, Mike (Sherry) Layton of Brewton, Andy (Karen) Layton of Milton, Fla., Kenny (Angie) Layton of Brewton; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Layton Grissett, Laura Elizabeth Layton Allen, Emily Frances Layton Sasser, Catherine Layton Gardner, Donna Michelle Layton, Wesley Layton, Andrew Howell; seven great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Royce Fayette and Fannie Rodgers Layton; two sisters, Sarah Holland, Frances Erickson; a grandchild, Neil Layton.
Graveside Services are scheduled for Friday, Apr. 24, 2020, at 2PM at Union Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Edwards officiating.
Interment will follow in Union Cemetery Brewton, Ala. with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.
