East Brewton Police are currently investigating what they believe may have been an attempted robbery Sunday night at a local business.
According to East Brewton Police Chief Kenny Brazil the Dollar General location was the scene of an altercation between an unknown suspect and two clerks at the business.
“As the clerks were locking up the business for the night, a male suspect appeared from behind an outside freezer and pulled a gun,” Brazil said. “At that time the two clerks, who had just locked up the store, ran from the area.”
Brazil said neither of the clerks were injured in the incident.
“The gunman did not pursue them as they ran and no shots were fired,” Brazil said. “We’re certainly thankful no one was hurt in this incident.”
Brazil said his department is following up on leads as to the identity of the suspect.
“We do have several leads we are following up on in this case,” Brazil said. “Right now, we don’t have a particular suspect in mind and we are continuing this investigation. We do know that the gunman’s face was covered making identification difficult.”
Brazil said anyone with any information concerning the incident or who may have seen anything out of the ordinary on Sunday night at the East Brewton Dollar General should call his office at the East Brewton Police Department at 867-4864.
