Gateway to Heaven Church, Inc. is feeding the community. With the help of the USDA and Feeding the Gulf Coast, the church serves as a meal drop off center.
On March 9, 2020, the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) began approving waivers enabling a Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and National School Lunch Program Seamless Summer Option (SSO) sponsors to serve meals in a non-congregate setting and at school sites during school closures related to the coronavirus. This child nutrition program ensures that children who rely on free or reduced-price meals at school are able to get the nutrition they need.
This past Thursday, the church opened its doors for the Coronavirus Feeding Assistance Program (CFAP) and the child nutrition program distributing food. The food distribution took place from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.
“Strictly volunteers came from the church and volunteered their time,” said Associate Pastor Yasmenda Bassett, supervisor with Feeding the Gulf Coast.
The child nutrition program distributions occur daily with breakfast and lunch pick up from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. CFAP distributions occur Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Gateway to Heaven church is located at 323 Alco Drive Brewton, AL 36426. For more information call (251)644-8475.
