Mrs. Sharon Elaine Bethune Jones of Castleberry passed away Friday, July 17, 2020 at her residence with her family by her side. She was 68.
If you knew Sharon, you knew how much she adored her family, especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She spoiled them constantly, always showering them with affection and gifts from her travels.
Sharon loved to travel, having traveled all over the United States and several foreign countries, including Russia, Ireland, England, and Denmark. However, her favorite place of all was Chama, New Mexico. Having first visited there in 2010 for Tommy’s first elk hunt, her love of the natural beauty and wildlife had her returning at least 10 times over the next 10 years, each visit bringing her more joy and memories. If Sharon were still alive, there is no doubt she would be planning the next trip back to her Eden.
In addition to her family and her travels, Sharon loved her job. Having worked at Evergreen Medical Center for 40+ years, she rose through the ranks to be the Chief Financial Officer of Evergreen Medical Center and Jackson Hospital. She loved all of her coworkers and rarely missed work. She would go to work sick, always insisting that her work family would take care of her. Her final day of work she was sick as well, and her work family continued to care for her through her ever worsening illness over the next 8 months until her death. Her family will be forever grateful for their love and support.
Sharon loved her community with a passion most will never know. Her first contributions to the community saw her performing as a Disk Jockey for the local dances in the park in downtown Castleberry and for the local High School and other community function seasonal dances. Sharon then took a leading role in the Castleberry Strawberry Festival and continued organizing and running this annual event for over 30 years. Finally, every Christmas for numerous years, Sharon and Tommy would dress up in their Christmas best and be Santa and Mrs. Clause for community events and parades.
Sharon’s husband, Tommy, her daughters, and her grandchildren would like to extend their heartfelt thanks, appreciation, and admiration for all the support from the medical staff at Evergreen Medical Center, Mobile Infirmary, D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital, D. W. McMillan Home Health, Southern Care Hospice, Conecuh County EMS, and several other health agencies who attended to her. You are all awesome. To the extended family, work family, life-long friends, and people who simply knew or met Sharon; your sympathy and support means the word to us knowing that she was loved and will be missed by so many.
Funeral services will be held 2 pm., Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Bob Godbee will be officiating. Burial will follow in Holland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm., Monday, July 20, 2020 at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home. Cope-Keahey Funeral Home is entrusted with these arrangements.
