COVID-19 causes change within churches

Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases across the county, many businesses, restaurants and even churches changing hours and plans.
After a brief period of in-person services, many churches have changed hours and service requirements. At the time of press, the following plans are in place at the churches listed below.
First Baptist Church of Brewton will resume in person church services on Aug. 2. Sunday morning worship services will continue to be at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. with the guidelines for the worship services continuing to be in place. These guidelines, while not all inclusive, include the wearing of masks being highly recommended for all people over 4 years old, use of hand sanitizer before entering the sanctuary, temperature taken and not being above 99.7 before entering the sanctuary, and social distancing of six foot spacing utilized for seating in the sanctuary. A nursery will be provided for the 11 a.m. worship service and an option for Children’s Church for children 4 years -2nd grade. July 26, a worship service will be live streamed at 9 a.m.
Brewton First United Methodist Church conducts one service every Sunday. The service begins at 10:50 a.m. with four different options. Members and the community are invited to attend via drive-in service in the parking lot of the church, the sanctuary, fellowship hall, or online.
First Presbyterian Church of Brewton is offering three options for members and the community. The Sunday service begins at 9 a.m. and members may attend in the sanctuary (masks required), in the fellowship hall, or in the vehicle listening to the radio from the parking lot of the church. Social distancing and all other health guidelines are enforced at this time.
Rock Creek Assembly of God Church is meeting once a week on Sunday. Masks are required and all health guidelines are enforced at this time.
Zion Hill Baptist Church has suspended in person services until further notice. Members and the community are encouraged to tune into the live service on Facebook.
Gateway to Heaven Church meets every Sunday morning at 10:30 a. m. in an in-person, outdoor service. The Wednesday service is offered online at 6 p.m.
Calvary Mennonite Church hosts a worship service, adult class and children’s church on Sundays beginning at 10 a.m. On Wednesday, a night group meets. Masks are required and social distancing is strictly enforced.
Christ Kingdom Ministry Center is hosting Sunday services at 9 a.m., until further notice. The following options are available:
-Indoor seating with masks and social distancing required. Seating is marked to facilitate this.
-The service will be viewable via projected TV from the CKMC parking lot, for drive-in participation.
-Select service livestreams and/or replays are available on YouTube. Search – Christ Kingdom Ministry Center Brewton.
Alco Baptist Church is continuing the drive-in service. The service begins at 8:30 a.m. with no services scheduled for Sunday night. A prayer meeting with social distancing is conducted every Wednesday night.
East Brewton First Baptist Church currently meets only on Sunday. Worship is at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. No nursery, children’s church or choir at this time. The church is abiding by social distancing guidelines and following the mask mandate at this time.
