Peter Diurno, 80, of Brewton, Alabama passed away on January 13, 2021 at D.W. McMillan Hospital after encountering a brief illness.
Pete was born on October 19, 1940 in Nutley, NJ. Pete served in the United States Air Force from 1958-1962. He then moved to Milton, Fla., and eventually to Brewton, where he served as Code Enforcer and Magistrate for over 27 years. He was a proud member of the Brewton Pentecostal Holiness Church. Pete was an avid Alabama football fan, enjoyed fishing and family get-togethers, and he was very proud of his Italian heritage. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Giuseppe and Angelina (Amoroso) of Italy; sister. Marie Ferraro of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey; and his son, Peter Anthony Diurno, of Brewton.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Penton Diurno; sister, Faye Bibber; his loving children, son, Joseph Diurno (Brittany) and daughters, Terri (Rex) McLelland and Angela (Larry) Pope. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Justin (Shana) Lawson, Shelly (Todd) Daniel, Sydney Diurno, Cameron Pope, Colin Pope, Mia Pope, and great-grandchildren, Hallie Daniel, Kilee Daniel, Ty Daniel, Briley Lawson and Mallory Lawson. Uncle Pete sincerely loved his nieces and nephews. Papa Pete will forever be missed by family, friends, and the community.
Graveside services were held Monday, January 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Green Acres Cemetery with the Rev. Byrnes Pitts officiating. Interment followed in Green Acres Cemetery in Brewton.
Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton was in charge of arrangements.
