Robert ‘Bob’ Shepherd Owen
Laurel, Miss.
Robert “Bob” Shepherd Owen passed away on November 25, 2021, at the age of 87.
He was born August 15, 1934, near Stanley, NC, to Joseph and Janie Owen.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Kay Owen of Laurel, Miss., his parents, and one brother.
Bob is survived by his children, Timothy (Karol) Owen, Joel (Melanie) Owen, Jonathan (Robin) Owen, and Jana Kay Owen; his grandchildren, Claire Owen, Samantha Owen, Janie Valentine, Matthew Owen, Annette Owen, Mark Owen, Liseth Owen, Ryan Owen, and Samuel Roper; his great-granddaughter, Marnie Valentine; and his brother, Roy “Skipper” Owen.
Bob graduated from Alva High School in Alva, Fla., and attended the University of Florida, transferring to finish at Mississippi College where he met the love of his life. Bob and Kay later moved to Ft. Worth, Tex., where Bob attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Bob completed his master’s degree in English at the University of Florida. He served three years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
Bob was multitalented and held many careers in his life, positively touching those around him in every position. Some of the positions he held include brick hauler, truck driver, preacher, middle school teacher, college instructor, home builder, construction worker, and electronics/computer repair business owner. He served as a college teacher in the prison system for the majority of his career. He enjoyed sailing, reading, and spending time with his family.
Memorial Services are planned for February 12, 2022 in Jackson Tenn.
