A majestic home once occupied the property where the new softball complex for T.R. Miller High School now stands.
Through a series of events, the McMillan family made a donation of the property that is now part of the T.R. Miller High School campus.
Situated on Belleville Avenue, the new facility was completed earlier this year and is now the home field for the Lady Tiger softball team.
The dedication of the field was held last Tuesday evening prior to a season opener for the team.
The property was deeded to the Brewton City School System in 2020 through a series of donations beginning with the McMillan family to the City of Brewton.
At the time of the property transfer to Brewton City Schools, Superintendent Kenneth Varner offered thanks for the use of the nearly-two-acre plot of land.
“We are really landlocked where we are at T.R. Miller High School,” Varner said. “This property will allow us to expand our campus and our footprint. Our location has really limited our ability to meet future needs due to the lack of property. With the proximity of the school and the residential neighborhood adjacent, there was really no way to get any more property. This will give us an entire city block to expand our campus and our footprint.”
The dedication last week came just before the first home game for the Lady Tigers softball team.
In that game, the TRM Softball team defeated Northview by a score of 12-2.
