Students at schools throughout Escambia County will have a chance to serve on a jury May 4 and 5 in Brewton.
The annual Law Day event allows high school seniors to serve on a jury in a real trial in Escambia County’s court system.
A separate case will be presented over the two-day event with the verdict reached by the jury to be implemented by the court.
Students from the west end of the county will be on the jury May 4 representing Escambia County High School, Flomaton High School, Atmore Christian School and Baptist Temple.
On May 5, seniors representing T.R. Miller High School and W.S. Neal High School will be selected to serve on the jury for the day.
Cases to be heard by the students have not been revealed but will involve actual defendants in two separate cases. Defendants have agreed to have their cases heard by the high school jury and will abide by the verdict rendered at the end of the trial.
Law Day is observed every year to celebrate the role of law in our society and to cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal profession.
Locally, the two-day event is a product of the Escambia County Bar Association.
