Drexell & Honeybee’s receives grant

Another $2,000 will go into the accounts of Drexell & Honeybee’s Donations Only Restaurant, thanks to a grant awarded by TCC Gives.
The announcement of the grant awards by the Verizon-owned company were made late last week.
Lisa McMillan, who owns and operates the Brewton eatery with her husband, Freddie, was thankful for the award.
“We are so grateful,” McMillan said. “We will be able to serve more guests in our community with this and it means the world to us.”
The grant was made possible through the work of Robert Sandwell, an employee at the Brewton Verizon retailer, who made a request for the grant on behalf of Drexell & Honeybee’s. The grant received was part of a quarterly process by TCC Gives.
TCC Gives is responsible for offering grants to non-profit agencies in communities where a Verizon retailer is located.
So far in 2023, the company has awarded more than 1,100 grants totally more than $4.3 million.
With the local grant award, Drexell & Honeybee’s will be able to continue provided meals to the public regardless of their ability to pay.
The restaurant is often the recipient of locally-produced vegetables from area growers that helps to supplement their purchases for food prepared for service.
The restaurant is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until the food runs out.
The restaurant is located in historic downtown Brewton at 109 Lee Street where there is no menu prices, no cash register and no judgement. Donations are welcome to assist with food costs and preparations.
