Brown named EMS Director for DWM

The Escambia County Health Care Authority (ECHCA) announced Monday that James Brown has accepted the position of D.W. McMillan EMS Director. D.W. McMillan EMS offers emergency paramedic and EMT response to area citizens in coordination with county E911.
“James has been a wonderful asset to our community since joining us in 2006,” Stephen Fischer, ECHCA CEO said. “James will be responsible for leading our hospital-based EMS service at the two locations (Brewton and Flomaton) including oversite of three 24/7 ground ambulance crews and a staff of approximately twenty full time equivalents.”
Brown, who is already employed with D.W. McMillan EMS, has been on staff since 2006, where he began as an EMT-PRN. In 2008, Brown joined D.W. McMillan EMS full-time and in 2013, completed his paramedic training. Prior to joining D.W. McMillan EMS, Brown worked as an EMT for Conecuh County EMS in Evergreen, Ala. Brown earned both his Basic EMT and Paramedic training certificates from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia, Ala.
Brown replaces Cody Wilson who has been an employee of D.W. McMillan EMS since 2010 and EMS Director since 2022. Wilson will remain on staff serving as the Assistant EMS Director.
D.W. McMillan EMS is the emergency service provider to Eastern Escambia County, Alabama covering from Flomaton to the Escambia Covington County line. There are three full time ambulances always in service staffed with a paramedic and an EMT. D.W. McMillan EMS provides 24/7 service 365 days a year to the citizens of Escambia County in coordination with Escambia County E911.
