On September 18, 2023, Reid State Technical College’s Health Careers Practical Nursing Program launched its first-ever nurse apprenticeship program with Crowne Health Care as its first participating healthcare organization.
The Alabama Legislation approved an amendment to the Alabama Board of Nursing’s Nurse Practice Act, which made the apprenticeship program possible. This groundbreaking program allows healthcare systems employees to enter a unique apprenticeship agreement with a community college and nursing students.
Students accepted into the nurse apprenticeship program become healthcare facility employees and work alongside an experienced nurse, also known as a journey worker. This program provides practical nursing students with unparalleled opportunity to “earn while they learn.”
During the program, students will gain hands-on experience in real-world healthcare settings, allowing them to understand better the practical application of the knowledge they gain in the classroom. This program is a significant milestone for Reid State Technical College and will positively impact the students, their families, institutions, and the community.
Officials at RSTC say they are thrilled to launch this program and are grateful for the opportunity to offer students such a unique and beneficial experience.
