Santa Claus is coming to Brewton this Friday as the finale for the much-anticipated Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas Parade.
The parade is set to take to the streets of East Brewton and Brewton with a start time of 6 p.m.
The parade will line up in East Brewton. It will travel down Forrest Avenue, over the Murder Creek bridge on Mildred Street, to the main intersection at the railroad tracks. It will turn onto St. Joseph Street and continue to Belleville Avenue. Parade units will disband on side streets of McLellan, Rankin and Granberry.
Chamber officials say there are more than 70 entries in the parade this year with many of those entries bringing more than one unit to the event. As many as 10 floats have will be vying for prizes during the juding portion of the annual event.
Floats will be judged for their creativity with a first, second and third place cash prize awarded to winners.
The finale float will feature Santa as he visits the area and waves to children along the parade route. Mrs. Claus will have her own spot in the parade. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be throwing goodies to those along the parade route.
The parade event will also be accompanyed by a special Holiday Market in downtown Brewton at Market Park at the foot of Belleville Avenue.
The Market will feature more than 30 vendors this year with sales beginning at 5 p.m.
Belleville Avenue will be closed at 5 p.m. to traffic to prepare for the parade and allow safety for those attending the market and parade.
The weather forecast is calling for a perfect parade night, however, if the parade is cancelled due to inclement weather, a back up date of Saturday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. has been set.
Luminaries scheduled for Saturday and Sunday have been moved to Dec. 16 and 17 due to incoming rain. Start time will be 5 p.m. and carriage rides will return at that time as well.
