Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest seasons of the year for florists and the activity at Herrington’s the Florist in Brewton proves it.
Tuesday at Herrington’s, located on Douglas Avenue, was bustling with excitement and work as arrangements were created in preparation for Wednesday’s big day.
Ronnie Herrington, owner of the local flower shop, said the days leading up to Valentine’s Day are busy and long, but worth every moment.
“We’ve been doing this for 40 years so I think by now we have it down,” Herrington said while tying bows to add to arrangements. “This is our biggest day of the year and we do everything we can to make it go as smoothly as possible.”
Herrington said a refrigerator trailer is brought in for the season and is filled with florals ready to be arranged and completed arrangements ready for delivery.
“We have extra folks working to make it all happen,” Herrington said. “We have visiting people from Mississippi, Mobile, Magnolia Springs along with our local people working to make sure everyone gets their flowers for the day.”
Deliveries will be taking place throughout the day on Wednesday with additional pick-ups as well.
“We fill our orders and route our deliveries to make it easier for our delivery people,” Herrington said. “For people who want to drop by and pick up flowers, we also make sure to have extra arrangements ready to go.”
Herrington said Valentine’s Day business booms every year and is just ahead of the business he sees around Mother’s Day.
“This Mother’s Day will mark 41 years we’ve been in business,” Herrington said. “We opened on Mother’s Day weekend 41 years ago and have been growing since then.”
Although the days leading up to Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day are long, Herrington said it’s work he is happy to do.
“I am so thankful to live in a community like Brewton,” Herrington said. “I’m thankful for the people we serve here and their support. There’s no better place to live than here in Brewton.”
Herrington’s the Florist is located at 719 Douglas Avenue. In addition to a variety of floral arrangements, the shop also offers balloons, plush animals and other gifts in a wide range of offerings.
