A train vs. semi crash occurred in downtown Brewton Wednesday morning leaving traffic through town snarled for more than an hour.
Brewton Police and Brewton Fire personnel were on the scene just minutes after the crash to assist with traffic control and other first responders on the scene.
Brewton Police Chief Matt Jordan did confirm that one person was transported to the hospital as a result of the crash, however, no information was available on the condition of the victim.
The crash involved contact by a north-bound train and the trailer of a semi-truck at the crossing of Mildred Street and St. Joseph Avenue downtown. The impact of the crash pushed the trailer of the first vehicle into the cab of a stationary log truck at that intersection. The trailer of the first vehicle crushed a portion of the log truck’s cab. No details on the injuries were made available early Wednesday afternoon.
The warning signal bells and lights were operational at the time of the crash. No other details have been made available from the Brewton Police Department.
