National Day of Prayer set for Thursday

The National Day of Prayer is held each May to encourage prayer among its citizens.
The 2024 event, set for May 2, will be the 73rd observance of the nationally-proclaimed event.
In Brewton, area ministers will gather on the front lawn of the Escambia County Courthouse beginning at 12:05 p.m.
The theme for the 2024 event is “Lift Up the Word — Light Up the World” will be taken from the scripture found in 2 Samuel 22:29-31.
Leading the prayer service will be the Rev. Parker Johnson who will bring the opening prayer and lead the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flags at the beginning of the ceremony.
Other area pastors participating in the ceremony and day of prayer include The Rev. Joshua Doss – praying for education; the Rev. Blake Mohling – praying for business; the Rev. Pat Poole – praying for first responders; the Rev. Robert McWilliams Jr. – praying for unity; the Rev. Cavin Cawthon – praying for government; the Rev. Macon Phillips – praying for military; the Rev. Parker Johnson – praying for family; the Rev. Jeff Edwards – praying for media; the Rev. Steve Massingill – praying for churches. The Rev. Parker Johnson will lead attendees in “God Bless America” during the ceremony. The closing prayer will be delivered by the Rev. Cavin Cawthon.
The ceremony, expected to span about 30 minutes, will be moved to the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Brewton should rain hinder the event.
