Crash in Brewton last week claims one life, 3 injuries

A multi-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 5 p.m. Monday, June 10, has claimed the life of a Century, Fla. man.
John D. Woods, 68, was critically injured when the 2002 Jeep Cherokee he was driving was struck by the 2020 Nissan Murano driven by an 18-year-old juvenile. After the initial collision, the Nissan was struck by the 2019 Hyundai Sonata driven by Sonja S. Nelson, 59, of Brewton.
Woods was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. The 18-year-old driver and a 16-year-old passenger in the in the Nissan, were both injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment.
On Thursday, June 13, Woods succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The crash occurred on U.S. 31 near the 68 mile marker, within Brewton city limits, in Escambia County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
