In just over a week, the city of East Brewton will be abuzz with activities as they host the annual July 4th Celebration.
Organizing the event is the Fort Crawford Committee, in connection with the City of East Brewton, with the group planning the usual events associated with the community-wide holiday celebration.
The day will begin at the East Brewton SAIL Center on Williamson Street as the competition in the annual Spades Tournament gets underway at 9 a.m. The location will also be the site for prizes and snacks as the Bingo tradition continues at 1 p.m. Committee members say the prizes have been secured and winning players will be surprised by the merchandise up for grabs for the 2024 event.
The activities will also be plentiful at Fort Crawford Park at the foot of Snowden Street at Forrest Avenue.
The park will be the site for a horse shoe tournament beginning at 4 p.m. with teams competing for cash prizes.
The banks of Murder Creek within Fort Crawford Park will be a good place to watch the ducks as they race to the finish line. The ducks will swim with a 6 p.m. start time. Winning ducks will carry cash prizes for those who purchase ducks for the race. Ducks may be purchased at East Brewton City Hall thorugh July 3 during regular business hours. Ducks will be on sale at Ford Crawford Park at the gazebo until 5 p.m. Each duck is $5.
Entertainment will be plentiful for the day with local musicians and singers taking the stage beginning at 3 p.m. Among those scheduled to perform are Jeremy Yoder, Melissa Owens, Tonya Graves during the afternoon. Other entertainers will be added to the line-up closer to event day.
Mancil Rock Mafia will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. and provide entertainment leading up to the finale event for the day.
Fireworks, the big highlight of the day, will begin at 9:30 p.m.
Food concessions will be available at the SAIL Center during spades and bingo events with offerings of hot dogs, sausage dogs, hamburgers, nachos, pickles and plenty of cold drinks. The same menu will be available at Fort Crawford Park under the pavillion after 3 p.m.
Kona Ice will be on hand at Fort Crawford Park during the late afternoon throughout the evening’s entertainment.
In addition to concessions available at the park, the Fort Crawford Committee will also have special light-up items available for purchase along with other trinkets to commemorate the day.
Funding for the annual event is made possible, in part, from the sale of items available on July 4th by the Fort Crawford Committee.
Other funding helps to round out the day with plenty of entertainment and, of course, fireworks.
