For those seeking recovery treatment of substance abuse, finding a facility in close proximity has been an issue. That has now been resolved with the opening of a new treatment center in Spanish Fort in Baldwin County.
Longleaf Recovery & Wellness has opened a new recovery treatment center in Spanish Fort– the fourth facility for the company.
“We need this for Baldwin County and for the Gulf Coast area,” said Billie Jo Underwood, chair of the Baldwin County Commission. “I am so excited that the people of this area can get help locally.”
Spanish Fort Councilman J.R. Smith echoed Underwood’s sentiments, “I think this is a much-needed resource.”
“This will be a welcome addition to the community,” Smith said.
Alabama Department of Mental Health Commissioner Kimberly Boswell was also on hand for the opening of the recovery center, located at 13920 Cypress Way.
“Longleaf Recovery is really doing innovative and creative work in our state,” Boswell said. “Everything that they’re doing in their approach is about creating dignity and respect for the people who walk through (their) door.”
In addition to the new location in Baldwin County, Longleaf operates the Birmingham Recovery Center and Longleaf Recovery and Wellness, both in Hoover, and Longleaf Recovery Huntsville in Madison.
“(Longleaf) is building these beautiful facilities that are designed to be peaceful and to support folks’ recovery,” Boswell said. “I’m so grateful that they’re leading the way in our state to improve the quality of care for people with mental illness and substance use disorder.”
“There is such a need for more options for both substance use treatment in Alabama,” said Longleaf’s Chief Executive Officer Colin Harris. “Treatment options are typically hard to find or inaccessible to so many in our state – we wanted to change that and, by opening our center in Baldwin County – we are doing our best to make it better.”
