South Alabama cattle and forage producers have a unique opportunity to participate in an
educational program specifically designed for their needs each year at the Gulf Coast
Cattlemen’s Conference.

The one-day conference is set for Friday, Aug. 9 in Atmore with the trade show and registration kicking off at 8 a.m. The event location will be at Grace Fellowship Church located at 1412 East Nashville Avenue on U.S. 31 in Atmore.

The Gulf Coast Cattlemen’s Conference is led by Auburn University Extension and a producer driven panel that plans and facilitates a day for south Alabama producers to interact and learn from industry professionals. This year the Gulf Coast Cattlemen Conference has teamed with the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association for a joint day of fun and learning by combining the Gulf Coast Cattlemen’s Conference and the Southwest Alabama Cattlemen’s Cookout.

The Gulf Coast Cattlemen’s Conference and Southwest Alabama Cattlemen’s Cookout are sponsored by many great agribusinesses including equipment dealers, lenders, and commodity and civic organizations- all of which will be there and would love to talk about the cattle and forage industry and what they can do to help you in your operation!

The formal program begins at 8:30 am, with Dr. Josh Maples from Mississippi State University talking about making money selling cattle in the
stockyard. This is followed by a session on heifer selection and development by Auburn University’s Kent Stanford. Then, producers get to participate in the Alabama Cattlemen Southwest Regional Cookout and program which will feature a program from the Livestock
Marketing Association called the producer profitability initiative (and will include lunch).

The final part of the program is a session from Dr. Kim Mullenix from Auburn University on how to properly integrate and manage winter annuals in south Alabama.
