After months on the run, the East Brewton Police Department finally make an arrest in a case of rape and sexual abuse.
Arthur Andrew Simmons, 28, was taken into custody Monday morning with assistance from the Gulf Coast Regional Task Force, according to East Brewton Police Chief Kenny Brazile.
Simmons was accused back in 2023 of having sex with a 15-year-old, Brazile said.
“Warrants were issued at that time,” Brazile said. “But, he had been running from us since then.”
Brazile said certain “threats” were made recently by Simmons that warranted the assistance of the GCRTC.
“It came to light a couple of weeks ago that he (Simmons) was sending some cryptic messages to someone,” Brazile said. “In those messages he mentioned something about having a shoot out with police and that he would ‘go out in a blaze of glory’ if approached.”
Brazile due to the circumstances, contact was made the GCRTC who assisted in tracking down and taking Simmons into custody from a family residence on Saw Mill Road in the Flomaton area.
Simmons has been charged with rape, second; and sexual abuse second in connection with 2023 allegations against him.
As of Monday afternoon, Simmons remained in the Escambia County Detention Center with no bond set in the case.
