Johnnie Gibson
Brewton

Mr. Johnnie Gibson, 65, of Ridge Road in Brewton, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024 at his residence after a brief illness.
He was a native and life long resident of Brewton. Mr. Gibson was a member of the Rock Hill Assembly of God Church, a 1978 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, and he was retired from T.R. Miller Mill Company. He was an avid Alabama Football and T.R. Miller Football fan. He was very proud of his granddaughter Darby Gibson, a majorette at Huntingdon College; he loved watching his grandson CJ Gibson, play football at T.R. Miller High School; and he enjoyed working in the garden with his grandson, Corbin. His grandchildren were the light of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda Sue Beasley Gibson of Brewton; his mother, Mary Carter of Brewton; one son, Corrie (April) Gibson of Brewton; one daughter, SuAnn (Wade) Cole of Brewton; one sister, Mary Brooks of Brewton; three grandchildren, Darby Gibson, CJ Gibson and Corbin Cole.
He was preceded in death by his father, Horace Gibson; and three siblings.

Visitation will be held Wednesday (today), August 28, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday (today), August 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Lindsey and the Rev. James Aubrey Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Rock Hill Cemetery Brewton.

Zoma Larry Covin
Castleberry

Mr. Zoma Larry Covin born July 25, 1945, 79, of Castleberry, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024 at his residence after an extended illness.
He was a former resident of East Brewton, and a long time resident of Castleberry. Mr. Covin was a member of the First Baptist Church Brewton, a 1964 graduate of W.S. Neal High School where he played football, he worked at the A&P grocery store and The Brewton Standard before begining his 30 year career at the Container/Jefferson Smurfit where he worked on the paper machine and worked in the power house. In 2004 Larry suffered from CKD and on May 25, 2004 his wife, Loma, donated him a kidney that lasted him until his death. He was an avid farmer raising beef cattle, row crops and later in life a tree farm.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Loma Monk Covin of Castleberry; two sons, Andy (Celeste) Covin of Cypress, Tex., and DeWayne Covin of Cypress, Tex; two daughters, Kim (Beau) Farris of Killen and Tracey (Ricky) Salter of Castleberry; three sisters, Sue (Gerald) Eady of Pace, Fla., JoAnn (Don) Braxton of Milton, Fla., and Jackie (Bob) Rodgers of Shreveport, La.; nine grandchildren, Trey (Mallory) Salter, Savannah Farris, Chandler Farris, Skylah Huffman, Drew Covin, Addison Covin, Kai Bennett, Kaleb Bennett, and Brent (Ashley) Salter; four great-grandchildren, Avery Salter, Maggie Salter, Laney Salter and Levi Salter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zoma Lewis and Martha Amerson Covin; and a grandson, Garrett Salter.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 5:00 p.m.. until 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with memorial services following at 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Brewton with the Rev. Russ McDonald officiating.

Sandra Lucille ‘Lucy’ Crawford
East Brewton

Mrs. Sandra Lucille “Lucy” Crawford, 85, of Hart Street in East Brewton, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024 in a Pensacola, Fla., hospice after a brief illness.
She was a native and life long resident of Escambia County. Mrs. Crawford was a member of the East Brewton Assembly of God Church, and the Glory Hill Assembly of God Church and was a graduate of W.S. Neal High School. Mrs. Crawford enjoyed cooking spending time with her grandchildren, and was an avid Neal Football and Alabama Football fan.
She is survived by a son, Jason (Tammy) Crawford of East Brewton; four grandchildren, Haley (Humberto) Crawford, Seth Crawford, Xavier Crawford and Madkson Crawford; three great-grandchildren, Adriel Arriaga, Israel Arriaga and humberto Arriaga.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Crawford; seven brothers, Everett Gibson, James Gibson, Horace Gibson, Bobby Gibson, Leo Gibson, Ed Gibson and Robert Gibson; and three sisters, Betty Haveard, Eloise Dubose and Gladys Cloke.
Graveside services were held Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Rock Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Scurlock officiating. Interment immediately followed.

Thomas Dewayne Macks
Century, Fla.

Mr. Thomas Dewayne Macks, 66, of Tedder Road in Century, Fla., passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2024 at his residence after a brief illness.
He was a native and life long resident of Century, Fla. Mr. Macks worked as a heavy equipment operator with Campbell Sand and Gravel for several years, he also drove a truck for Jett Logging and Jack Mitchum logging before having to retire in 2014. He loved fishing, hunting, and making things grow.
He is survived by his wife and friend of 28 years, Catherine Macks; one son, Thomas Dewayne (Tawanda) Macks Jr.; one daughter, Marlina Biggs; two brothers, Joe Eddie Macks and Ronnie Macks; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchidren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Harris and Bro. Reo Pugh officiating. Interment followed in Byrneville Methodist Church Community Cemetery in Century, Fla.

Mary Alice Sims Morrison
Fort Walton, Fla.

Mrs. Mary Alice Sims Morrison, 89, of Cloverdale Boulevard in Fort Walton, Fla, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024 at her residence after a brief illness. She was a native of Georgiana, a long time resident of Evergreen, before moving to Fort Walton, Fla.
Mrs. Morrison was of the Baptist faith. She attended Conecuh County High School, and was a retired lunchroom worker from the Okaloosa County School System. She was an avid bowler, she enjoyed working in her yard, and cooking.
She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Morrison Moen of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; one grandchild, Nichole (Josh) Standridge; and one great-grandchild, Scarlett Standridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Barney Leon and Sealvania Caro Sims; and her husband, William Harold “Billy” Morrison.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Macon Phillips officiating. Interment followed in Cedar Creek Cemetery in Castleberry.

Jacky Dale Reaves
Daphne

Mr. Jacky Dale Reaves, 73, of Dan Avenue in Daphne, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024 in a Birmingham hospital.
He was a native and long time resident of Castleberry, before moving to Daphne. Mr. Reaves was of the Baptist faith, and was a 1968 graduate of Conecuh County High School. Mr. Reaves was a former employee of Northside Auto Parts, and was currently employed at Chuck Stevens Chevorlet. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, Auburn sports, and he loved his Grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Norris Reaves of Daphne; one son, John (Deliah) Hall of Hoover; one sister, Ann Godwin of Fairhope; three grandchildren, Destiny Hannah and Hayden (Joshua); and one great-grandchild, Jaxon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, JT and Gladys Mae Bradley Reaves; two brothers, William Reaves and Lamon Reaves; and a sister, Faye Lowery.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Stephen Pugh and Speaker Mallory Hawkins officiating. Interment followed in Green Acres Cemetery in Brewton.
Active Pallbearers were Kevin Godwin, Corbett Godwin, Lavon Minard, Terry Rohn, Paul Lowery, and Frank Reaves. Honorary pallbearers were Scott Clark, Robert Rohn, John Rohn, Justin Wallace, and Noah Chislom.

Nancy Miller Melton
Evergreen

Nancy Miller Melton, 79, of Evergreen, died on August 7, 2024. She was born May 17, 1945 in Ouachita Parish, City of Monroe, La.
She was predeceased in death by her husband of 56 years, William Dudley Melton; her parents, Virginia Kersh Miller and John Richard Miller, Jr.; and her brother, David Earl Miller.
Her maternal grandparents were Mary Virginia Kersh and John Earl Kersh of Monroe, La. Her paternal grandparents were Lucille McGowin Miller and John Richard Miller, Sr. of Brewton.
Her father was on active duty in Europe with the United States Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force, when she was born. Upon his discharge, he was reunited with his wife and saw his three month old daughter, Nancy, for the first time. They moved to Brewton.
Nancy attended the public schools in Brewton and graduated from T. R. Miller High School. She attended Converse College for two years and transferred to the University of Alabama where she graduated with a B.A. Degree and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
In March of 1967, she married William Dudley Melton.
In Evergreen, she was a member of the Evergreen Study Club for 50 years, a member of the Evergreen-Conecuh County Public Library Board and Chairman of the Library Board during the construction of the new Library in 1979.
She served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Mobile for 15 years from 1987 to 2002.
She was a longtime member of The Evergreen Baptist Church and served for many years on the Building and Grounds Committee of which she was a sustaining member. When the Evergreen Baptist Church Sanctuary was remodeled in 2001, she served on the Interim Design Committee.
She is survived by her beloved children, Nancy Dudley Melton (Tyler) Berry of Franklin, Tenn., and Richard Plowden (Jennifer) Melton of Tuscaloosa; five grandchildren: Lathram Olivia Berry, Tyler Rieves (Tori) Berry, V, Mary Dudley Berry, Lee Miller Melton and Virginia Catherine Melton; and brother John Richard (Carol) Miller, III of Loxley, and sister, Jean Miller (Sandy) Stimpson of Mobile.
A memorial service was held at Evergreen Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2024, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Phyllis Middleton
Brewton

Phyllis Middleton, 91, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2024 at 2:45 a.m.
She was born in Monroeville on July 13, 1933 and was the beloved daughter of Nathaniel “Matt” Gross and Donnie Lee Gross. She joined the body of Christ at an early age. When she and her family moved to Brewton, she immediately united with Second Saint John Missionary Baptist Church where she served for many years on the usher board and the Missionary Society. She was a loyal and faithful member for nearly 70 years.
She was admitted to Ascension Saint Thomas in Murfreesboro, Tenn., a week before her passing after relocating there for medical care with her daughter and son-in-law in 2024. She was placed in the care of Alive Hospice just days prior to her passing on Aug. 16.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her children, twins Glenda and Linda Middleton, Walter Lee Middleton and Jennifer Middleton; brothers, Edward Gross, Eddie Lee Gross, Samuel Gross, Robert James Gross; sisters, Rosetta Bush, Louise Moncrease and Frances Brown.
She is survived by her children, step-son James Middleton of Montgomery, Carl (Allice) Middleton of Poughkeepsie, NY, Jerry Middleton of Brewton, Kath Walker of Pensacola, Fla., and Diane (Bryan) Sallier of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; her sisters-in-law, Creola Walker of Pensacola, Fla. and Lula George of Indianapolis, Ind.; her daughters-in-love, Juanita Smith, Patricia Farrish, Shirley Watson, Janet Jones, Marilyn Nettles, Carolyn (Millender) Dees and Venchelia Jones; sons-in-love, Robert Jones Jr. and George Watson; and special friends Mae Hall and Helen Brown; four grandchildren, Vincent Brown of Sunrise, Fla., Carlos Middleton, Jeffrey Walker and Na’Arah Middleton of Pensacola, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren; and special friends Joshua Wright of Murfreesboror, Tenn., and Kendall Sallier of Dallas, Tex.; as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Second Saint John Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. William T. Gulley, pastor; and the Rev. Danny Benjamin as eulogist. Interment followed at Second Saint John Church Cemetery on Ridge Road in Brewton.

William Walter  Brazile Jr.
Brewton

William Walter Brazile Jr., 71, passed away August 18, 2024.
He was the son of the late Cleveland and Queen Esther Brazile born on January 15, 1953.
At a young age, he joined Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church. He attended Brooklyn School and later went to Southern Normal School and was a member of the graduating class of 1971.
After school, he worked at Harold Broothers Paper Mill and later at T.R. Miller Lumbr Mill until his health failed.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Vivian Brazile; two daughters, Amanda Brazile of Brewton and Sharla (Bennett) Anderson of Deatsville; two sons, William Brazile Jr. and Antoni Brazile, both of Brewton; six grandchildren, JaMarcus Brazile, Kevin Howard Jr., Keyon Hward, Jordan Brazile, Megan Anderson and Jaden Brazile; four sisters, Bessie Brazile, Evelyn Brazile, Lorene Spencer, all of Brewton and Celia Brazile of Asbury Park, N.J.; in-laws, Doris Hudley of Brewton, Michael (Lisa) Lindsey fo Castleberry, Gayle Hudley and Donna Hudley, both of Brewton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral servies were held Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at Greater Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas W. Broughton officiating. Interment followed at Greater Mount Calvary Church Cemetery.
