Thespians in the Brewton area will have to wait a bit before heading to the theater.
Stephanie Walker, a spokesman for the local group, said although theater performances aren’t in the cards this season, other events hosted by the BCA will continue.
“Each fall, the Brewton Council of the Arts sells tickets for its annual performance season,” Walker said. “ Unfortunately, the Woodfin Patterson Auditorium, where performances are held at Coastal’s Brewton campus, is in the lengthy process of repairing storm damage to the auditorium’s roof; thus it was not feasible for the Arts Council to enter into any contracts with professional touring groups. There will be no performance season this year as there has been in the past.”
Walker said previous patrons and season ticker holders have been notified of the changes.
“In the meantime, the Arts Council is excited to continue its other activities,” Walker said. “Those include the Lee Bain Invitational Art Show at Porchfest on November 9; Escambia County Youth Art Show for K-12 students; the in-school performance by the Birmingham Children’s Theater for all PreK, K and 1st grade students; Christmas Art Display at local health care facilities; the Hermine Downing Scholarship, and Missoula Children’s Theater for area students January 20-25 (utilizing the auditorium at Flomaton High School).”
With in-theater performances on hold this year, plans will be made to move forward for the 2025-26 season.
“Once Woodfin Patterson has a new roof, plans will begin for scheduling at 2025-26 performance series,” Walker said.
