The Gulf State Park Pier will officially re-open to the public with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to celebrate the renovated structure on Friday, Sept. 13. The event begins at 10 a.m.
Local government officials, community leaders and State Parks leadership will attend the ceremonial ribbon-cutting and dedicate the pier, which re-opened Aug. 19 after undergoing a $13.6 million renovation and repair project after it was severely damaged by Hurricane Sally in September 2020.
“To have the iconic Gulf State Park Pier again available for the public to enjoy has been nothing short of spectacular,” said Chris Blankenship, commissioner of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR). “It was wonderful to have the pier open during the Labor Day holiday weekend, and I appreciate the patience of the fishing public as we made the repairs. I am thankful for the work of our contractors and staff to make the pier better than ever. This event will give us a chance to celebrate the pier being open for business.”
