Almost 40 years ago, Mr. Tom Neal and community leaders had the vision to build a first class YMCA to serve surrounding communities. Years later, the Brewton Area YMCA has become an important and integral part of our families and their children’s lives. Sports, After-school, Summer Camp, Preschool, Fitness programs and more have been realized over the years to bring health and quality of life to all children and families of all backgrounds.
The YMCA staff, board members and volunteers continue to help people of all ages achieve their individual wellness goals, bring families closer and serve as a gathering place for seniors.
One of the key principles is that no one should be turned away due to their inability to pay for a membership. The Y has provided over $65,700 annually in financial assistance to youth, families and seniors to pay membership and programs. These same funds help to subsidize other programs and activities that benefit our community.
The YMCA serves over 18,000 participants annually including 4,050 individual and family memberships from 5 counties
Now 40 years later, the YMCA Board of Directors has implemented a Capital Campaign to raise needed funds to take the mission and the facility into the next 50 years.
So far, under the leadership of the Board of Directors and volunteers, $1.6 million has been raised to address the current and future needs of the YMCA.
The funds raised during this campaign will be set aside in a special account only to be used for Capital Projects for facility improvements including; HVAC, Roof, Facility upgrades, Pool, Parking, Lighting and Energy, Security and IT as well as Programs.
The Brewton Area YMCA needs the community’s support to help realize these funds to take the Y into the next 50 years. Contact the Brewton Area YMCA to learn how to support our effort.
The Brewton Area YMCA is located at 1635 Belleville Avenue in Brewton and can be reached by phone at 251-867-YMCA (9622).
