Greg Dawkins, who is entering the world of politics for the first time, has qualified as a candidate for the Escambia County School Board District 2 seat.
Although he has a history of volunteering with organizations, the current campaign is his first run at an public, elected position.
Dawkins says he is hoping to win the election to allow him an opportunity to make a difference in the future success of students in the county system.
“I am running for this position to ensure every student has the skills for success after they leave our school system. I want to create an environment where every student feels supported and empowered to reach their full potential. Education is not just about academics; it’s about nurturing well-rounded individuals who are prepared for the challenges of the future. By fostering a community that values diversity, inclusivity, and innovation, I believe we can inspire our students to become lifelong learners and compassionate leaders. Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that every student develops the confidence and character to pursue their dreams and contribute positively to society. I am passionate about making a difference, and I am eager to dedicate my energy and efforts to this community.”
Even though this may be his first time in politics, Dawkins said his entire life has led to this campaign.
“I’ve dedicated my life to championing my family, kids, and work in every way possible—social worker, foster parent, coach, community advocate, engineer, graphical designer, electrical field worker, leader, manager, you name it! I have run major construction projects (city sewer and storm drainage installations), been the president of booster clubs, advocated for children’s rights, and even designed intricate electrical distribution lines for our local electric cooperative. I’ve been the technology wizard behind our geographical information system, making sure the heart-beat of our electrical services run smoothly. Plus, I’ve brought innovative technology solutions to help our team and members make smart service and business moves. As the captain of his loving crew, Greg isn’t just a dad and husband; he’s a cheerleader for other’s success. His mission? To sprinkle warmth, understanding, and respect wherever he goes, making everyone feel seen, supported, and ready to conquer the world.”

They have two awesome kids: Logan, a 2015 WSN grad now working for Sandy Sansing Automotive, and Madison, a 2024 grad who’s smashing it on the softball field at LBW College. When he’s not being a family superhero, you can find Greg camping, boating, hunting, or just soaking in the great outdoors.
