The Escambia County Commission met Tuesday in a regular meeting and were given the opportunity to thank a retiring member of the Escambia County Healthcare Authority.

Delois Wilson, along with family members, was present at Tuesday’s meeting to officially resign her position with the ECHCA after many years of service.

“Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve,” Wilson said. “Healthcare is important to me since I’ve been in nursing for a long time. Thank you again.”

Commissioner Karean Reynolds, District 5, thanked Wilson for her time on the board.

“Thank you for your willingness to serve and volunteering to serve the community and the county,” Reynolds said. “Your service is appreciated.”

County Commission Chairman Raymond Wiggins offered his thanks to Ms. Wilson for her service on the board.

Wiggins said filling the position would be done in the coming weeks. With the District 5 position now vacant with Wilson’s resignation, Reynolds will be responsible for nominating a new member for the ECHCA. Currently the board is made up of nine members — one from each of the districts in the county and four at-large members.

In other business, the Commission:

  • authorized the Extension Service to make landscape changes at the extension building;
  • approved the Alabama Department of Youth Services Diversion Grant for GY2024-25;
  • confirmed and ratified a letter of support to Poarch Band of Creek Indians, Nationally Significant Federal Lands and Tribal Projects grant application;
  • approved the execution of Ingenuity contracts for probate and tax collector;
  • adopted resolution 20241015-1 accepting project ECP 27-125-25 ALDOT to improve the intersection at County Roads 6 and 35. Commissioner Larry White expressed thanks to the county engineers for finding the grant to work in the area. “This is a major intersection in front of Friendship Fire Department and there have been concerns about the line of sight and safety there,” White said. “I want to thank the engineers for their work in securing this grant that will address the issues there.”
