The national election to choose the person to sit in the White House has been the main focus across the country in recent months.
But, one local race with two candidates vying for a spot on the Escambia County School Board as the District 2 representative, is just as important.
Incumbent Danny Benjamin (D) is being challenged for the position by a political-newcomer, Greg Dawkins (R).
The two candidates have been campaigning for the position and each hopes to win the seat.
The primary in March determined the winner in a race for Escambia County School Board District 3. Incumbent Mike Edwards was unseated by political newcomer Jerry Wilson. Wilson will take office following the general election.
In a race for Escambia County Commission District 2, Raymond Wiggins retained his seat defeating challenger Lew Najor. Wiggins received nearly 66 percent of votes cast in the election.
For the upcoming election set for Nov. 5, polls across Alabama will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The deadline for applications for an absentee ballot is Thursday, Oct. 31 with the deadline for returning those ballots set at 4 p.m. Nov. 4 or bearing a postmark of Nov. 4 received the Escambia County Clerks office no later than noon on Nov. 5.
