In the annual meeting of the Escambia County School Board on Monday, members elected a new president and vice-president to serve as leaders of the group.
President Loumeek White was nominated to retain his presidential seat with Coleman Wallace also nominated for the position. After a 4-3 vote, Wallace was voted to replace White in the seat.
Only one nomination was entered for the vice-president’s position with Kevin Hoomes who now assumes the position with no opposition.
The meeting was also the last for District 3 member, Mike Edwards. Edwards lost his bid for re-election in the primary election defeated by Jerry Wilson. Wilson will join the board at the table at their next meeting on Nov. 15.
The seat for district 2 was up for grabs in Tuesday’s election, with incumbent Danny Benjamin facing challenger Greg Dawkins. The winner of that race will be sworn in on Nov. 15 (See our social media and website for winner information.)

• offered an opportunity for public comments relating to the allotment of public school funds or other matters. However, there were no comments to come from the audience;
• approved an increase for board member compensation to $900 per month;

• approved the personnel recommendations as presented by Superintendent Michelle Collier.
