A T.R. Miller Tiger signed formal commitment papers last week showing his intent to attend the University of Florida and play football as a Gator next fall.
Myles Johnson, a highly-sought-after athlete, had been visited by many coaches from many universities encouraging the starred athlete to be a part of their teams. Officials from the University of Alabama, Louisiana State University, Liberty University, the University of Florida and the University of Mississippi.
Previously, Johnson had made a commitment to the University of Alabama after receiving visits from Nick Saban and Kalen DeBoer. He decommitted to Alabama in July.
In the end, Johnson has chosen to attend the University of Florida and will begin his time there in the fall of 2025.
After offering a thanks to God for getting him to this point, Johnson went on to thank those who have been on the journey with him.
“I want to thank my coaches for instilling values and dedication in me to be a better athlete and a better person,” Johnson said. “And, I thank my family for their unwavering support through the years. Thank you to Encore Physical Therapy for keeping me going and getting back better than ever. I want to also thank my peers for being great people in my life. To my team mates and brothers, thank you for battling with me. Thank you for the moments you’ve given me. I love you all.”
With those words Johnson placed the Gator cap on his head and declared, “Go Gators.”
The room was filled with supporters of Johnson, including his pastor, Russell Clausell, Jr. Johnson had asked the pastor to begin the ceremony in prayer.
Clausell said Johnson was the most dedicated individual he had met.
“He is what he portrays himself to be,” Clausell said in his opening remarks. “He sets an example, not just for the younger generation, but for everyone around him.”
TRM Head Coach Brent Hubbert said Johnson is unlike any athlete he has coached in his career.
“I have been coaching for 31 years and I’ve coached some really good players,” Hubbert said. “The first guy I’ve coached is in the NFL this year. But I have never coached a person like Myles. He has that kind of ability. He has leadership and brings things to the table outside of football. Myself, and my son, are better people for having been in contact with Myles Johnson.”
Hubbert shared the stats that Johnson had achieved in his time at T.R. Miller High School as a Tiger.
Johnson racked up 3,342 all-purpose yards, 53 touchdowns, 226 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss, and one each interception, sack, fumble recovery and forced fumble.
