County schools grades released

The Escambia County School System received an 83 on the 2024 Alabama Department of Education Report Card.
The grades, which were also given to each school in the system, are based on academic achievement, academic growth and the graduation rate. Chronic absenteeism and college and career readiness indicators are also factored into the score.
Superintendent Dr. Michele Collier recognized the schools that performed well on the report card during the school board’s regular meeting Dec. 12 at Atmore Central Office. Additionally, she recognized the teachers of the year from each school.
For the 2024 report card, Escambia County High School scored a 59; Escambia County Middle School scored a 75; Huxford Elementary School scored a 82; Rachel Patterson Elementary School scored a 78; Flomaton High School scored a 83; W.S. Neal High School scored a 77; W.S. Neal Elementary School scored a 80; Flomaton Elementary School scored a 90; Pollard McCall Junior High School scored a82; and W.S. Neal Middle School scored a 79.
In other business, the board:
• heard a review of the monthly financial report from Chief School Financial Officer Avery Ford. Ford said the system has 4.6 months of operating reserve;
• approved the adoption of the school system’s mission statement;
• approved an employee replacement on the science textbook adoption committee;
• approved a contract with PowerSchool Group LLC for PowerSchool Enrollment Registration in the amount of $16,862.96, and PowerSchool Schoology End User Support in the amount of $11,018.70, to be paid out of At-Risk High Hopes Grant;
• approved a contract with Walker Construction for the repair of soffit and eaves at RPES, not to exceed $50,000;
• approved the chief school financial officers as an authorized signer on all Escambia County Board of Education bank accounts, and all local school bank accounts;
• approved to open a local school bank account for A.C. Moore Primary School; and,
• approved the following personnel recommendations:

• Stephanie Alaniz, as lead nurse at ECBOE, effective Jan. 3, 2025;
• Lisa Robbins, as a seven-hour lunchroom worker at ACMPS, effective Dec. 20, 2024;
• Kelly McNeil, as special education teacher at ECMS, effective Dec. 20;

The board also met in executive session for 43 minutes to discuss consideration for the sale of a parcel of property within the county, and the good name and character of an employee.No action was made as a result of the session.
The board of education will next meet on Jan. 23 at A.C. Moore Primary School at 4:30 p.m.
