Governor issues ‘State of Emergency’ in light of winter storm

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has issued a “State of Emergency” proclamation in light of the severe winter storm slated to hit most of the state on Tuesday.
With the proclamation, Ivey has indicated a State of Emergency in 39 Alabama counties expected to see extreme weather impacts from the storm on Tuesday and into Wednesday this week.
The proclamation goes into effect at 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20 and will remain in place for 60 days or until rescinded or extended by proclamation.
The emergency situation is in place for Escambia County as well as Autauga, Baldwin, Barbour, Bibb, Bullock, Butler, Chambers, Childton, Choctaw, Clarke, Coffee, Conecuh, Coosa, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Dallas, Elmore, Geneva, Greene, Hale, Henry, Houston, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Mobile, Monroe, Montgomery, Perry, Pike, Randolph, Russell, Sumpter, Tallapoosa, Washington and Wilcox Counties.
The proclamation calls for the activation of the Alabama National Guard and other state agencies as need; the prevention of price gouging; state government office closings; and school closings.
