Our Opinion: Brewton plays role of host

Brewton was a gracious host last week to more than 60 members of the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission.
The group - which includes leaders from Escambia, Mobile and Baldwin counties - held its tenth annual strategic session in the city. In addition to meetings and planning sessions, the group was able to enjoy tours of Brewton - and, at least according to the group's president - the city's hospitality shone through.
With tours of homes, dinner at the Country Club of Brewton and accommodations at the newly renovated Brewton Inn, the planning group members were shown some of the best of Brewton.
We may not even realize what that kind of exposure can do for our community.
Brewton is not what we typically think of as a “tourist spot,” but our city does have a lot to offer visitors - especially visitors who can influence those who might become permanent residents.
The planners who visited here have contacts with a lot of people, including potential industries.
Their knowledge of our community - and its hospitality - can help boost our reputation.
And with the renovated Brewton Inn as a beautiful place to stay, we have even more to offer out-of-town visitors.
We hope that as Brewton looks to grow and improve in the future - with park plans on the horizon and other projects in the works - we will continue to offer that same hospitality we are famous for.
