Mr. and Miss Basketball winners are announced
Ramsay High School senior forward Katherine Graham and Jeff Davis senior guard Courtney Fortson were named Thursday as Miss Basketball and Mr. Basketball, respectively, for 2007.
The Alabama Sports Writers Association announced the winners of the annual award, which crowns the pair as the state's top prep basketball players for the recently completed season.
Graham averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead Ramsay to a 32-2 record and the Lady Rams' fourth straight state Class 5A title. The LSU signee was also chosen from three finalists as the Class 5A girls player of the year. She edged Arab guard Alli Smalley for both the 5A honor and Miss Basketball honor.
Fortson was also named the state's top Class 6A player.
The 5-10 Fortson averaged almost 25 points a game in leading Jeff Davis of Montgomery to the 6A state finals. The Vols, with Fortson at the throttles, won the 6A crown in 2006.
The other players of the year class winners are as follows.
Class 1A: Kimberly Davis of McIntosh and JaMychael Green of St. Jude.
Class 2A: Katie King of Samson and Frankie Sullivan of R.C. Hatch.
Class 3A: Brittany Leverett of Washington County and Mick Hedgepeth of Crossville.
Class 4A: Courtney Jones of Midfield and Justin Knox of Central-Tuscaloosa.
Class 5A: Rico Pickett of Decatur.
Class 6A: Catina Bett of Gadsden City.
