The old saying that “nothing lasts forever” may be a thing of the past when the United States Postal Service presents a forever stamp.
The USPS unveiled the design of the stamp on Monday revealing the use of the Liberty Bell in the art for the stamp.
“The stamp will be made available to consumers on April 12,” said Brewton Postmaster William Clay. “Although the price of a first class stamp will not increase until May 14, the stamp will be made available at the new rate on that day. The stamp can be used after the price increases.”
Clay said those who purchase the stamps at the new rate of 41 cents will be able to use the stamps forever.
The U.S. Postal Service issued a news release stating that the stamp will remain valid regardless of any future increase.
When postage changes in the future, it will reduce the need to buy one- and two-cent stamps, Miller said.
“The purpose of this type of stamp is to bring more awareness to the postal service,” Clay said. “It is one way to show how customer oriented the postal service is.”
Potter said the convenience aspect of the stamp eliminates the purchase of one- and two-cent stamps to accompany other stamps in the event of price increases.
