County school board members followed suit with their Brewton counterparts by asking for a June 5 vote to renew a property tax for schools.
Superintendent Billy Hines wants an opportunity to split the voters among several districts.
The school board voted to ask Escambia County commissioners to place the measure on a June 5 ballot already designated for a statewide economic development issue.
Last September, county voters rejected the renewal of a 3-mill district tax for county schools and a 1-mill countywide tax for city and county schools. City voters approved a 3-mill district tax that would benefit the city schools.
Hines suggested having the 3-mill tax divided by districts, rather than grouped together for the entire county school system.
If the 3-mill tax for the three districts is passed, it means better educational and environmental changes for Escambia County schools.
Hines said he plans to meet with the principals of each school within the next two weeks to discuss the needs for next year.
