While the T.R. Miller Lady Tiger softball team took a step back in their bid to host the area tournament with a loss to Cottage Hill earlier in the week, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles took a step closer Thursday.
The Lady Eagles traveled to Mobile and came back with a 7-1 win over the Lady Warriors to improve their overall record to 9-8 this season and to 3-1 in conference play.
“This was a big area win that gets us a step closer to hosting the area tournament,” W.S. Neal head coach Jeff Haney. “Our bats finally came alive a little bit, but we still have a great deal of room for improvement at the plate. We also cut down on our errors, but two is still too many. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into next week with games against Central, Miller, and Florala.”
Lady Eagle pitcher Kaitlin Hadaway held Cottage Hill to one unearned run on one hit while W.S. Neal scored one run each in the first, second and fifth innings and two in the fourth and sixth innings.
Hadaway went the complete game seven innings to earn the win and walked two and struck out 13.
At the plate, W.S. Neal pounded out 14 hits. Kaeli Brown had a double and one RBI and Haleigh Dubose was 2-for-4 with a triple. Karissa Johnson was 2-for-4 with a double. Christina Robinson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and KeKe Floyd had one RBI. Tori Wyatt was 2-for-4 with one RBI in the win. Kena Ellison was 1-for-5 and Tiffany Sawyer was 3-for-4.
